You won’t have to wait until Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Wild Horse Pass Hotel to thrash some slash.
Starting Friday, Aug. 21, people will be able to drop off their yard waste at Yavapai County transfer stations for free for a limited time.
It’s the first time in years the county has offered a free drop-off program for yard waste, also called slash, this time of year.
The program was approved by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors.
“The supervisors want to try and do this a couple of times a year,” said Marcie Slay, a public information officer with the Yavapai County Emergency Management Department.
The county typically has a free slash drop-off period in the spring.
It’s in advance of the summer and fire season, and it’s intentional.
The goal is to help make it easier for people to clear an area around their property to protect it by denying a possible fire the fuel it needs to thrive, according to Tara Mannis with the solid waste division of Yavapai County Department of Public Works.
Fire is a real danger in the arid Southwest and a little bit of prevention can go a long way when it comes to a possible disaster.
