Barag finds life to be a riot

Published:

Christine Barag used to be involved in civic affairs.

She ran for office when she felt like there were things she wanted to change and ended up becoming vice mayor of Jerome.

She missed being mayor by just a couple of votes, Barag said, because in Jerome the candidate for Town Council who gets the most votes gets to wield the gavel.

These days, Barag can often be found behind the bar at Rendezvous In Old Town, aka RIOT, the old gas station that has been attracting people from all around for some suds, a sandwich and maybe a game of cornhole.

Barag said she’s enjoying this line of work a little more than being an elected leader.

“I don’t miss going to meetings and I don’t miss having to run things,” Barag said.

Barag grew up in the area.

“My grandparents lived in Jerome,” Barag said.

Barag worked at different places in town like the historical society and Western Heritage Furniture.

Barag came down the mountain when she got the job as manager at the bar.

“We’re rockin’ it out,” Barag said.
