SR 260 work is moving forward

Planning is moving ahead with the effort to expand State Route 260 to four lanes all the way between Interstate 17 in Camp Verde and Cottonwood.

A progress meeting was held last month between Arizona Department of Transportation personnel in Prescott and Phoenix to touch base on where things currently stand and what still needs to be done.

The important corridor between Cottonwood, I-17 and Camp Verde has been placed on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s five-year plan for an expansion to four lanes.

The Town of Camp Verde spearheaded the effort to show ADOT it was dedicated to seeing the road improved, working to get local communities on board with the plan.

Camp Verde and Cottonwood helped pay for a lobbyist who helped convince the ADOT board of directors that the project was necessary.

At a meeting in 2013, the ADOT board approved the idea, setting aside $66 million in funding for the work.
The allocation provided $4 million for design work and another $62 million for eventual construction, now planned for 2016.
