State parks, highway revenue funding and energy conservation were just part of what’s going to be considered later this month by a committee of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns at a meeting set for Tuesday, Aug. 18, in Tucson.
The committee looks at legislative proposals from governments throughout the state and decides which ones it supports and hopes to promote before the state legislature.
Mayor Charlie German is Camp Verde’s representative on the committee.
Last week, the Camp Verde Town Council reviewed some of the proposals to give German an idea of how the other elected town leaders would like him to vote.
Among the proposals are:
- Renewable energy and conservation districts
Proposed by the city of Flagstaff, the plan would call for some sort of legislative mechanism to allow for these special financing districts with commercial properties.
Proponents of the plan argue that it could be a tool for facilitating economic development while promoting more energy efficiency.
“I think they’re just looking at all of the funds that have been swept on various levels [by the legislature], German said.
The Town Council had no objection to German voting in support of this proposal.
- Allow reasonable restrictions on overbroad or abusive public records requests.
Requested by the city of Yuma, this proposal tends to be placed on the legislative wish list annually, German said.
According to the proposal put forward by Yuma, sometimes people make records requests that require several years’ worth of documents, which can take hours to compile, some of which are never even reviewed by the applicant.
