The Cottonwood Police Department uses a system of video cameras in patrol cars and some that are worn by officers to record incidents.
It’s the WatchGuard video system, Cottonwood Police Chief Jody Fanning said.
The department uses 16 cameras in cars and has six wearable body cameras.
It was this system that allowed the department to share with the public the video from the fatal Walmart brawl March 21 that left one officer injured and another man dead.
Fanning explained the system to the Cottonwood City Council at its July 21 meeting.
“It’s a hot topic in our society right now,” Fanning said.
The cameras are always recording, Fanning said, though when not deliberately activated the video quality is low.
