In an effort to continue improving how things look around town, the Camp Verde Town Council this month started considering potential beautification awards or recognition programs.
The idea was floated by Vice Mayor Bruce George.
George, who is active in picking up litter around town, said the idea came to him while he was looking around for trash.
George mentioned that the town has already taken action with things like the litter cleanups and the adoption of a stretch of highway to keep it clear of trash.
While that can sometimes seem like a neverending task, George said he thought there might be other ways to help keep other areas of town clean.
“As we’re picking up the trash I thought about what else we could do to make the town more attractive,” George said.
One idea, George said, was a possible monthly award given to businesses that keep their buildings and property looking attractive.
“Maybe a flower pot or something they could keep outside,” George said. “An incentive so they will take a little more pride in the appearance of their building.”
Councilwoman Jessie Jones said she had talked with a friend who is a local business owner and brought up another idea.
Jones said her friend had expressed interest in doing something like helping to clean up around the cannons that mark the entrances to town on State Route 260.
In exchange, the business would be recognized with a sign for their efforts.
“It could be simple,” Councilwoman Carol German said.
The two entryways were provided by the Arizona Department of Transportation when the State Route 260 bypass was built, Councilwoman Jackie Baker said.
