A wastewater treatment plant being built by the city of Cottonwood is going to cost more than initially projected.
The plant was initially projected to cost $8.5 million. The City Council previously voted not to exceed $10.1 million.
Now the project will cost more than an additional $1.3 million.
The City Council voted 5-2 at a special meeting July 14 to approve the additional cost.
The increased cost is a result of more work that’s going to have to be done to get the plant ready for operation.
Council members Terence Pratt and Jesse Dowling voted against approving the additional spending.
Several of the things the city reports are needed weren’t initially included when the “guaranteed maximum price” of $10.1 million was calculated.
