One of the latest projects of the Yavapai-Apache Nation, a convenience store at the intersection of Cherry Road and State Route 260, is set to open this weekend.
The new store is built but still fenced off, awaiting its grand opening.
Don Decker, public relations director for the Yavapai-Apache Nation, said the store will serve people traveling along State Route 260 as well as being a convenience for the people who live in the Nation’s Tunlii neighborhood.
The Market Place, as it is called, will likely be used by the employees and visitors of the Yavapai County Superior Court and the Yavapai County Detention Center, located directly across the road behind a shooting range.
The store is also just across from Out of Africa wildlife park, an attraction that brings visitors from across the state and region.
While there are other convenience stores, this one will be the closest to the current center of development and business along this particular stretch of State Route 260.
Construction of the store started in November and remained more or less on schedule.
“It’s ready to go,” Decker said.
The grand opening is set for Saturday, July 18, at 10 a.m.
According to Decker, the store will feature a deli, a smoke shop and specialty beers on tap.
The grand opening will also have sweet corn on hand, grown on local Yavapai and Apache farmland.
It’s also the same day Cornfest will be going on in downtown Camp Verde, so there should be no shortage of places to indulge a desire for the summer treat.
At least for the grand opening, there will be free food available along with a special broadcast by local country music station KVRD.
There will also be live music courtesy of the Apache Spirit Band, heading out west from their hometown of Whiteriver for the occasion.
