Organizers ready to pop Cornfest

Published:

The final preparations are done and everything is in place for this year’s annual Cornfest, set for Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18.

It’s definitely that time of year. The local corn stand over at Hauser and Hauser Farms has already been up and running and as the festival’s organizers opine in touring this year’s festival, “The Verde Valley of central Arizona has the best sweet corn you have ever tasted.”

“The planning has all gone pretty well for now,” said Nikki Miller, organizer with Camp Verde Promotions. It’s always a risk planning an event this time of year, though.

“We’re just hoping we don’t get rained out,” Miller said.

This year, Miller said that the festival is bringing some new things.

“We’ve got a water slide and plenty of great music,” Miller said.

A craft fair will be held in the town-owned gym off of Hollamon Street.

The bulk of the event, including the star attraction, the roasted sweet corn optionally drenched in butter, will be set up in the soccer field behind the town-owned office complex off Main and Hollamon streets.

Miller said that last year, the festival sold hundreds of ears of corn.

“I’m not sure we could even cook more corn than we did last year,” Miller.

Still, help is always needed in preparing the corn.
