Bruce George chosen as Camp Verde’s vice mayor

Bruce George has been named Camp Verde Town Council's new vice mayor.

Councilman Bruce George is the newest vice mayor for the Town of Camp Verde.

George was selected by his fellow council members for the position following a unanimous vote late last month.

The vice mayor’s primary responsibilities are to fill in for and run meetings when the mayor is unavailable.

The office used to have a one-year term but was extended to two years by the Town Council in recent years.

The Town Council had discussed extending the term temporarily to keep it more in line with the mayor’s four-year term. While the terms of council members have been extended in Camp Verde through 2016 in order to keep things in accordance with more recent state rules that require elections in even years, the vice mayor position itself was still bound by town code, according to a report from the Town Council.
