Yavapai College’s Verde Valley Advisory Committee updated the Camp Verde Town Council June 10 on what it is trying to accomplish.
The committee has held meetings with local governments to find out what the communities of the Verde Valley wants from the college.
Some residents and officials felt the area was shortchanged by the most recent 10-year plan for the college. That dissatisfaction led to creation of the advisory committee.
The college’s plan calls for $103 million in capital expenditures, most of which will be in the Prescott/Prescott Valley area. A report reviewed by the college governing board predicts that Yavapai County’s population will grow by 23 percent in the next 10 years, with most of the increase centered in the Prescott Valley area.
Randy Garrison, a member of the advisory committee and a Cottonwood city councilman, said the committee’s intent is to keep the Verde Valley’s educational needs relayed to the college’s governing board.
“We’re Verde Valley-centric in our recommendations,” Garrison said.
But, he said, those recommendations aren’t always acted upon.
