Yavapai College has the opportunity to receive some ranch land along Oak Creek near Cornville.
The DK Ranch sits along nearly 1,500 feet of Oak Creek and consists of around 45 acres.
It’s owned by the Steele Foundation, a philanthropic organization based out of Phoenix dedicated to education and health.
The foundation has millions in assets and has to give away a certain amount every year, said Penny Wills, Yavapai College president.
“We were approached by the Steele Foundation,” Wills said. “They invited us to submit a competitive proposal.”
The ranch has been listed for sale at times for as much as $4.5 million.
Wills said that the foundation indicated it wanted the property was used to further educational goals.
Wills said a group from the college went out to inspect the property and found that the buildings on the site, including a residence and barn, were in excellent condition.
“I’m pleased to report to the board that this is a very good piece of property,” Wills said.
Wills said that one thing the Steele Foundation was clear about was whoever ends up with the property not have it “flipped” for resale.
The college has a Monday, June 1, deadline to submit its proposal.
