DPS report in by end of May

Published:

An Arizona Department of Public Safety spokesman said investigators are expected to complete their inquiry into the fatal shooting in the Wal-Mart parking lot by the end of this month.

In reply to a May 1 email seeking updated information and a target date for completion, Bart C. Graves replied: “Another 29 days.”

Graves had previously declined to provide a time frame for the investigation.

In the meantime, individual members of the Gaver family are scheduled for appearances in Yavapai County Superior Court this week and next.

The March 21 parking lot brawl left one family member dead, another wounded and a police officer shot in the leg.

DPS, which is investigating the incident because it involves a police shooting, has said there was a struggle for an officer’s gun and three shots were fired.

DPS last month released a dashcam video from a Cottonwood police cruiser that appears to show some members of the Gaver family were the aggressors throughout the brawl. Other dashcams weren’t working or didn’t have a view of the incident. There has been no word on whether Wal-Mart had security cameras that may have captured the event.
