British coming to teach soccer

Published:

To help give local Camp Verde kids an edge and a deeper appreciation of soccer, the Camp Verde Parks and Recreation Department is working to bring soccer instructors from the United Kingdom to Arizona.

It’s made possible through a partnership with Challenger Sports, a company that operates more than 1,200 youth soccer camps throughout the U.S. and Canada.

“Last year’s kids had a blast and might be the ones who passed you on the field,” according to the parks and rec department. “The instructors will work on key areas of technical development for each child and age group. Specific areas include passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting, heading and defense.”

Instructors stay with local host families and get an opportunity to experience a bit of America along the way.

The town brought the camp to a local soccer field last year, said Michael Marshall, Camp Verde parks and recreation coordinator.

“We had a small turnout,” Marshall said. “Those who came out seemed pretty happy with it, though.”
