Kiwanis plans kids weekend

The Camp Verde Kiwanis Club is looking to draw children to a series of special events the group has planned for much of the rest of 2015.

The events will also give children a chance to do something a little out of the ordinary during their summer break.

“We’re looking to spread the word,” said Jim Sweitzer, an organizer with the Kiwanis Club. “We’re going to have one event a month.”

The first event is scheduled for Saturday, May 2.

The club is looking for around 30 children, between the ages of 8 and 14, to show up at the town-owned gym on Hollamon Street for a harmonica lesson.

Bill Morris will be the instructor and promises to provide easy-to-follow instructions.

Originally from New Jersey, Morris was given his first diatonic harmonica by a family friend when he was about 10. The next year he was given his first chromatic harmonica, capable of changing keys and eventually took up the chord harmonica.
