In their opener Feb. 26, Winslow High School received payback, Cowboy style, at the hands of undefeated Camp Verde High School on its way to the championship of the Sun Blast Tournament in Anthem.

“We’re a pretty solid team,” said Henry Smith, Cowboys head softball coach. “The goal is to just basically get better every game, every day. Continue to work hard.”

Smith’s daughter, junior pitcher Taya Smith, went all seven innings, striking out 12 in a 6-3 win that avenged a 10-0 shutout loss last March in Winslow. After going 0-2 against the Bulldogs last spring, the Cowboys will go for the season sweep in their next home game Wednesday, March 18.
