The new executive director of Arizona State Parks was in Camp Verde last week and talked a bit about what she hopes to accomplish in the agency’s future.
Sue Black was appointed to the position in February by Gov. Doug Ducey.
It’s a return to Arizona for Black, who first started out in the 1990s with parks system as director of operations.
Originally from Wisconsin, Black also served as that state’s parks director as well as several years as director of the Milwaukee County Parks Department.
Black came to Camp Verde Feb. 24 to take part in a system-wide training program and awards ceremony that brought state parks employees together at the Cliff Castle Casino Hotel.
“I don’t want to be a politician,” Black said. “I want to be a practitioner of solid change that’s lasting.”
Black said she was glad to be back in Arizona.
