Two burglaries hit thrift store

Published:

A couple of break-ins over the past few months left a local thrift store in a tight spot.

Burglars broke into the St. Vincent De Paul Thrift Store off of Fir Street in Cottonwood, on Dec. 12 and Jan. 2.

“It’s still under investigation,” said Sgt. Tod Moore with the Cottonwood Police Department. “Unfortunately we don’t have any big leads at the moment.”

Moore said that the burglars broke into the store through a window, one that’s since been boarded up.

“The burglaries have stopped for now,” Moore said. “But that doesn’t mean that they couldn’t start up again.”

The thief or thieves made off with several items, including computers and the store’s cash register.

Some of those items, like the cash register, have been replaced.

The shop offers many different types of low-cost clothing and items for the home and depends almost entirely on the community for support.

The store is affiliated with the Immaculate Conception Parish St. Vincent de Paul Conference.

The store had to close down until new equipment could be obtained, but things are back up and running.

The thrift store has since set up a security system, said Sally Ochea, who works at the thrift store.
