Tax collection was up across most of the Verde Valley as of the end of December, according to numbers released this month from the Arizona Department of Revenue Office of Economic Research and Analysis.
Each month, the state reports on how much it collected from municipalities in transaction taxes, money generated from a wide range of economic activity, from retail sales and manufacturing to real estate deals and hotel visits.
The most recent figures mark the halfway point of the 2014-15 fiscal year, which started July 1.
In Cottonwood, a boost in sales tax collections was responsible for much of the uptick in total collections.
The city generated $767,814 in retail sales taxes for the month, up from $665,949 the previous December.
Construction tax revenue fell by more than 50 percent, however, to just over $45,200 collected.
Restaurants and bars were also busier in Cottonwood over the holidays compared with the previous year, with around $90,000 in taxes generated, up from around $72,700.
