A pedestrian bridge across Wet Beaver Creek in Lake Montezuma is still under construction.

The bridge was approved last year by the Yavapai County Board of Supervisor due to safety concerns of residents who had no way to cross the creek on foot other than sharing the existing bridge with motor vehicles  coming around a curve from one direction.

The existing bridge over the creek is on Lake Montezuma Avenue near Sycamore Park.

It’s the only way in or out of the community.

The new bridge will allow pedestrians and people on bicycles an alternate route without having to risk going into traffic.

While there’s no set date yet for completion of the bridge, hopes are for around the middle of March to the first of April, said Joe Reay, spokesman for contractor J. Banicki Construction.

The Tempe-based firm was awarded the contract last year after submitting the low bid of just under $558,000.

Initial designs were drafted by Atkins Engineering and Oliden Engineering of Phoenix. Community input was taken into account when it came to the overall aesthetic design for the bridge.
