Camp Verde has its share of big events, from Cornfest to Fort Verde Days.
Those events are nothing compared to the spectacle hosted earlier this month down in the Valley of the Sun: Super Bowl XLIX.
For every party around town and every play made on the field, there’s a lot more that goes on behind the scenes to keep the event running smoothly.
Two officers with the Camp Verde Marshal’s Office, Sgt. Oscar Berrelez and Deputy Jeff Bowers, got the opportunity to travel to the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale to join with other law enforcement agencies from around the state to help provide security for the event.
Bowers is the handler for K-9 officer Claymore, a Belgian Malinois.
Berrelez said he had the opportunity to work with another K-9 officer from the Glendale Police Department, a black Labrador narcotics dog.
The two men worked in separate areas around the Super Bowl.
Berrelez said it was an experience like no other, one that he’ll never forget.
The Glendale Police Department sent out an email looking for additional officers to work the area.
