Roger Every’s not sure how elephants first got hooked on peanuts. He’s pretty sure it started at the circus.

Every spent more than half a century traveling around North America with circuses.

Every traveled with several shows around the United States, Canada and Cuba.

Last week, Every talked a little bit about his storied career at the Clemenceau Heritage Museum in Cottonwood.

It was something he just wanted to do.

“I went down to see if I could get a job,” Every said, after being impressed by circus in his youth on the East Coast.

Every first got on board at a circus out of New Jersey in 1957 and he never looked back.
