Williams and children have become school sports tourists

Published:

Jody Williams took a moment to talk last week. She was more interested in the basketball game.

That’s because her daughter was playing, sporting the uniform of Tonapah Valley High School as she competed in a tournament being held in the gym at Camp Verde High School.

They had started out early in the morning to get to the game.

While her daughter was planning to spend the night with the rest of her team over at Cliff Castle Hotel, Williams said she’d be heading back south after the last game.

A mother of four, two boys and two girls, Williams is used to traveling around for various sporting events.

It’s been awhile since Williams had visited the Verde Valley.

“This is the first time I remember there being traffic,” Williams said.

The daughter on the court, Caitlyn, is a sophomore. The team has a new coach this year and Williams said the girls have had to get used to the new style of leadership.

Williams used to be a ball player herself, having played basketball and volleyball in school.

She even looked into possible beach volleyball around Tempe Town Lake but Williams said her daughter wasn’t really interested.

It’s not all sports, however.
