City’s Idol tunes up for final act

Published:

Cottonwood’s got talent.

Wait, that’s the wrong show.

It’s the second year for the successful Cottonwood Idol competition, a talent contest that showcases some of the area’s musicians, which will continue on Sunday, Jan. 11.

It’s a fundraiser for the Susan J. Rheem Adult Care Center.

“Since 1982, The Susan J. Rheem Adult Day Centers have served individuals and families living in Northern Arizona promoting independence through a full range of medical and social activities in a comforting environment as an alternative to in-home care and early placement of assisted living or the nursing home settings,” is how the center describes itself.

The event used to be held in Sedona, said Cindy Holcombe, event chairwoman, where it raised thousands of dollars.

Since coming to Cottonwood, the event has been successful.

“It went really well last year,” Holcombe said.

It was held at the Cottonwood Old Town Center for the Arts but the upcoming event will be held at Emmanuel Fellowship on Fir Street.

Last year, Holcombe said the event sold out in the last two weeks.

It raised more than $6,000, Holcombe said.
