The city of Cottonwood is looking at banning cigarette smoking in municipal parks.
The City Council directed town employees to come up with a proposed ordinance after a work session Tuesday, Dec. 9.
While those rules haven’t been drafted yet, City Clerk Marianne Jimenez said the city is looking at potentially including designated areas on some park land that may be set aside to allow smoking.
“There might be some cigarette butt receptacles is my understanding,” Jimenez said.
The effort will fall to the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, which oversees management of city parks.
The effort picked up momentum back in March, when the Yavapai Anti-Tobacco Coalition of Youth made a presentation.
