Small lineups facing bigger opponents have drawn Mingus Union High School’s basketball teams into an early-season struggle to keep their win-loss record above .500 as Payson High School comes to town Thursday, Dec. 11.
In the case of head coach Dave Beery’s boys, the Longhorns present a rematch of their best defensive effort of the year, a 58-54 win Dec. 5 at the Red Rock Classic in Sedona, one of their three in the tournament.
For head coach Dave Moncibaez’s girls, the Longhorns present a chance to go above .500 with three games remaining prior to the beginning of play in Division II, Section I.
Either way, the smaller Marauders need to improve their rebounding and control tempo to win both boys and girls games — two disciplines they struggled with in their early-season tournaments.
