The Town of Camp Verde accepted a $50,000 grant to develop a plan to take advantage of recreational opportunities along the Verde River.

The grant is for $50,000 through the Walton Family Foundation, the foundation started by the family connected with Walmart. The grant was facilitated by Friends of The Verde River Greenway.

The town receives $20,000 now and the remaining $30,000 in February, provided that the town has hired a design consultant.

Camp Verde Economic Development Director Steve Ayers said that the process has already begun.

Around 18 miles of the river runs through the town and it’s something that Ayers said need a more comprehensive management plan.
