Bears capture first youth league title

Published:

Big Ty Lainhart scored two touchdowns Saturday, Nov. 8, to help avenge the Cottonwood Bears’ only loss of the fall and earn them their first Northern Arizona Youth Football title, 20-6, over the Chino Valley Cougars.

Zach Figy, who played just the first eight plays of a 31-0 loss to the Cougars due to injury, played a full game at quarterback for the Bears [10-1] in the Minors Division championship, adding a touchdown with a two-point conversion by Austin Volk to seal the two-touchdown victory.

“Absolutely the best win of the year,” head coach Brandon Figy said, “because the kids had to come back from that loss to Chino and refocus on how we wanted to finish our season.”
