Mikel Weisser is the first to admit he’s facing an uphill battle.
Based out of So-Hi, near Kingman in Mohave County, Weisser is the Democratic candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives in Arizona’s District 4, a geographically massive district that covers much of the western portion of the state.
Weisser is facing Republican incumbent Paul Gosar.
“It’s one of the reddest districts in one of the reddest states,” Weisser said.
Still, Weisser said he’s sought his spot on the ballot since nobody else was apparently willing to run on the Democratic ticket.
It’s Weisser’s second attempt at the seat.
In 2012 Weisser lost in the primary by 19 votes to Johnnie Robinson, a Florence resident.
Weisser has been traveling around the district in an effort to reach out to voters.
He’s speaks regularly in Cottonwood, where he also attended this year’s Pride Festival.
Last week, Weisser was on his way to Payson to continue his campaign.
“It’s a full-time occupation,” Weisser said.
Weisser said a typical day on the campaign trail has him going from 8 a.m. to midnight and sometimes to two or three in the morning.
