Senior Jordan Reay ran for 109 yards and three touchdowns as Camp Verde High School won at Greyhills Academy, 41-8.
After rushing for more than 1,000 yards as a junior, it was just like old times as Reay tore off touchdown runs of one, five and 42 yards to cap all the Cowboys’ scoring right before the half.
“It was a good confidence booster,” CVHS head football coach Steve Darby said. “I wish we had that earlier in the year, but we had a tough schedule in which we just went from one heartbreak to another.”
All 28 players who traveled with the Cowboys [2-7] to Tuba City saw extended minutes, as Darby’s junior varsity players were all in the game by the middle of the second quarter. Sophomore Carson Zale left his mark on both sides of the ball, ringing up an interception as well as hauling in a 50-yard pass from senior quarterback Bodie Holowell for the game’s second score in the first quarter.
“Every game we play gives our young guys more experience [and] more confidence going forward,” said Darby, who will attempt to end the season on a two-game winning streak Friday, Oct. 31, at Willcox High School. “I’d like for our seniors to reflect back on some success in a positive manner. We obviously want to gain the victory for them.”
