Federal grant keeps buses running

Published:

The city of Cottonwood last week accepted a federal grant to help keep its local transit system running. The grant includes $1.67 million for the continued operation of the Cottonwood Area Transit buses and the Verde Lynx service, which connects Cottonwood and Sedona.

The grant includes matching local contributions totaling just under $400,000, which will be provided by Clarkdale, Cottonwood and Yavapai County.

The City Council accepted the grant at its Oct. 21 meeting.

The grant money is provided by the Federal Transit Administration with the Arizona Department of Transportation serving as the grant administrator.

The administration is a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation that helps fund new transportation networks as well as maintenance on existing transportation infrastructure.

The agency also this year provided funding to the Yavapai-Apache Nation, which set up a bus route between Camp Verde, Cottonwood and Clarkdale, one that also lets passengers connect to the Cottonwood and Verde Lynx transportation network.
