The city of Cottonwood is considering possible future projects to fund with Community Development Block Grant funding.
The funds are given out on four-year cycles through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The agency issues grants to local governments and municipalities for projects that will benefit areas lived in by predominantly low-to-mid-income residents.
The City Council held the first of two required public hearings at its Oct. 14 meeting to seek input on potential projects.
“The first is to take input and consider options; the second is to make the selection,” according to a report from the Cottonwood development services office. “Additional meetings are also typically held to consider specific projects and to prioritize before the final selection. The final grant application is expected to be prepared and delivered to [the Northern Arizona Council of Governments] by early April 2015.”
NACOG works to represent the interests of local governments in this part of the state and helps to administer the federal grant funding.
