The city of Cottonwood is looking toward the future in anticipation of road and street improvement projects.
The city participates in a transportation improvement program administered through the Northern Arizona Council of Governments, an agency that works closely with municipalities in the region.
The council distributes federal funds for street improvements; the next funding window for Cottonwood won’t be until 2022 and 2023.
While that’s a bit into the future, the city is looking at possible projects in order to prepare for applying for the funds.
“The amount of … funding available to the city for each fiscal year is $369,300. One project could be funded each year for a total of two projects,” reported Cindy Smith, an engineer with the city’s development services department. “An alternative is to fund one project using two years of funding for a total of $738,600.”
