In any competition, it’s always enjoyable to turn the tables on any opponent.

After winning its last three games by an average margin of over 40 points, the Mingus Union High School varsity football team is definitely enjoying itself.

The Marauders [4-4] sacked Kingman High School in more ways than one Friday, Oct. 17.

Led by junior linebacker Pete Kelly, whose seven-and-a-half sacks are fourth-best in Division III, the MUHS defense ran up five tackles of two Bulldogs quarterbacks behind the line of scrimmage in a 55-7 destruction that was over by the beginning of the second half.

That was when senior Herb Tiffany intercepted Kingman senior quarterback Daniel Williford, Section IV leader with over 1,000 yards passing, and ran the ball back 84 yards for his second  interception return
for a touchdown.

“It’s all coming together as a team, so we’ve just got to continue to improve,” head football coach Bob Young said prior to the Marauders’ final two games against Coconino and Prescott high schools. “We’re not taking anything away from Kingman and Coconino, but it’s going to come down to us and Prescott at the end.”
