Town looks at adopting Hwy.

Published:

The Camp Verde Town Council wants to adopt a highway. At least part of one.

The council agreed last week to schedule four town cleanups a year, particularly between mile markers 224 and 225 on State Route 260.

The area is east of town, out past Old Church Road.

Councilman Bruce George said that the idea was to get momentum behind an effort “to make our town more attractive for residents and visitors alike.”

The council plans to clean up the area before major town events, including Fort Verde Days in October, the Spring Heritage Festival in March and Cornfest in June.

The town could also try to get people who are behind those special events to help get some of the trash off local roadsides.

“The reason to set the dates is to get all the entities who are taking part in that event to get together to get everyone out there,” Town Manager Russ Martin said. “We want to clean up our image, especially at those times when the spotlight is shined upon us.”

Councilwoman Robin Whatley said the town should look at cleaning up before and after special events.

Martin said the town also provides bags for people who want to clean up areas around town.
