Camp Verde’s ‘Old Guys’ finish new cook shack

Published:

A group of people have last week completed construction of a new building for the Town of Camp Verde.

The new building was designed to serve as a “cook shack” and stands next to the town-owned ramada on Hollamon Street.

The effort was the work of the “Old Guys,” as they call themselves, a group of Camp Verde residents who have often put in work on behalf of the community.

Actually, this building was the work of the “Old Guys and friends,” said Ray Floyd, one of the original Old Guys.

The rest of the Old Guys include Dick Rynearson, Ron Brattain, Gary Kenfield and Jim Ashton.

After the building was completed, they cut the ribbon with members of the Camp Verde Town Council on Oct. 1.

The building comes complete with sinks and concrete countertops. The idea came about as a way to give the group that does Dutch oven cooking at various events at Fort Verde a more permanent place to set up shop. The building was completed just in time for this weekend’s Fort Verde Days.

“We used to put up a tent for Dutch oven cooking,” Floyd said.
