Football frees frustrations on Flagstaff

Published:

Just in time for homecoming Friday, Oct. 10, the Mingus Union High School football team released the frustrations of four losses on Flagstaff High School in a 63-13 road win.

The Marauders [2-4] not only lit up the scoreboard in the Dark Sky City with four touchdowns through the air and another four on the ground, they scored nine more points than their total offensive output in their previous five games combined.

“We scored so many points, I couldn’t tell you who scored exactly when,” said assistant coach Pete Kelly, whose son of the same name picked up 1½ sacks of the Eagles from his linebacker spot to become team sack leader. “Pete had a monster game. He was all over the place.”

Two big plays from senior running back Javin Helsel were the catalysts to a first-half lead the Marauders stretched to 42-7. His 58-yard sweep set up the opening MUHS score, a one-yard keeper by junior quarterback Jordan Upham, on their first offensive series.
