Fort Verde Days, Camp Verde’s longest running festival, is just around the corner and organizers are putting the finishing touches on getting the event together before it kicks off Friday, Oct. 10.
As always, volunteers are welcome.
The theme this year is “Old Fun, Young Fun, Anything Fun.”
This year’s grand marshal are “Youth Volunteers,” an effort to recognize the things that they do to help build the community.
“Along with the usual favorites that come with Fort Verde Days, Camp Verde Promotions has added a few new, fun items. This year’s add-ons will include a pie-eating contest, mechanical bull riding competition and ‘Design a Main Street for the Camp Verde of the Future,’” organizers announced.
The three-day event is organized by Camp Verde Promotions, a private group that took over running Fort Verde Days and other events like the annual Cornfest after the town decided to get out of the business of organizing festivals and special events.
Rylee Smith, who won the title of Colonel’s Daughter at a competition over the weekend, will join the Camp Verde Cavalry to lead the parade on Saturday, Oct. 11. The parade begins at 10 a.m.
