The Mingus Union High School District is looking for voter support for a new budget override that would help the district make some capital purchases.
The measure will be on the ballot in the Tuesday, Nov. 4, general election.
Under state law, a district is only allowed to budget so much money.
However, the state allows school districts to ask voters for a budget override, meaning the schools can tax property owners in the district beyond their set spending limits.
The Mingus Union High School District has been operating on a 10 percent budget override for maintenance and operations expenses since 1985, Superintendent Paul Tighe said.
That override was approved by voters last year but the money can’t be spent on many of the items and equipment the district needs, Tighe said.
