There is nothing about a two-game losing streak that two more losses at Ash Fork High School won’t cure.
First-year head coach Dan Gagnon and his Camp Verde High School varsity volleyball team found that out first-hand, rebounding from two defeats to the host Spartans to win the Ash Fork Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 13, after a nine-match, 28-hour marathon.
“My girls really came alive,” he said. “We came into our own. We figured out how to beat a team that had beaten us twice.”
The Cowboys had all of five minutes to recover from their first loss to Ash Fork before taking on Mayer High School. They managed to rebound with victories over the Wildcats and Seligman High School to go into the first round of double-elimination bracket play at the tourney with a 2-1 record. The reward? A 9 a.m. matchup Sept. 13 with Bagdad High School.
