The flags were placed along Main Street, a red, white and blue reminder that towns across the nation remember the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.
It happened 13 years ago but for many it seems like just yesterday.
Every year since, members of the local American Legion Post No. 93 have taken on the job of making sure that “never forget” is more than just a catchphrase.
People gathered beneath the ramada off of Hollamon Street Thursday to mark the occasion and remember the lives that were lost on that Tuesday morning more than a decade ago.
Nearly 3,000 people died that day when 19 hijackers crashed passenger jets into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and the Pentagon in Arlington, Va. More were killed when they fought terrorists for control of a fourth plane that crashed into a field in Pennsylvania.
Local pastor Rick Carling gave a prayer for those lost and asked people to also remember the four Americans who lost their lives on another Sept. 11 just two years ago at the consulate in Benghazi, Libya, when it was overrun by attackers.
