Town gets new logo for 150th

Camp Verde will turn 150 years old next year. While the logo shown has been used in the past, the town is calling for submissions from local artists and graphic designers for a new emblem to be used with promotional materials for the sesquicentennial, with the winner receiving a $250 prize.

It’s not everyday one gets to celebrate a 150th birthday.

Camp Verde’s 150th, or sesquicentennial, is technically in 2015, marking the anniversary of when the first Anglo settlers came from over the mountain.

Of course, American Indians were living here for centuries before those folks arrived, but Camp Verde is still looking to mark the occasion.

Those first settlers came to the area around Clear Creek.

Eventually, the U.S. Army was brought in to provide protection through a series of military encampments that eventually evolved into Fort Verde, the remaining buildings of which are maintained as a state park in downtown.

The particular sesquicentennial events are still being planned, but Camp Verde Economic Development Director Steve Ayers said some of them will be held in conjunction with the town’s Spring Festival, Cornfest and Fort Verde Days.
