City cuts ribbon for Teen Center

Published:

A new teen center is open in Cottonwood.

Kids and other residents gathered late last month to cut the ribbon on the Verde Valley Teen Center, located in an old fire station across from Cottonwood Middle School on Mingus Avenue.

The opening of the center has been a goal of members of the community for years. The project was a focus of the Verde Valley Youth Commission.

City Council waived building permit fees for some needed remodeling earlier this year before the center could open, fees totaling around $320.

“They were requesting the council consider leasing … a city building at a rate similar to the Boys & Girls Clubs, which was $1 a year, to develop a teen center,” according to an early city report presented to the council.
