Antwone Fisher had what many people would consider a pretty rough life growing up.
Bounced around through abusive foster care and into homelessness, Fisher joined the Navy where he worked through the issues he had developed with help.
Fisher later ended up meeting many members of his family he had never known.
Fisher wrote a book about the experiences he went through, which later was turned into a film starring Denzel Washington.
Now Fisher is bringing his story to Cottonwood, set for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Mingus Union High School Library.
Following that appearance, Fisher will stop by a booth at the Cottonwood Rhythm and Ribs Country Music Festival, also that weekend.
Fisher has recently joined the board of Kids at Hope, a group that looks to work with children to help them succeed in life despite the obstacles that have been thrown into their paths.
