Two flavors of events thunder into city

Published:

September in Cottonwood is home to a pair of big events for the city, the annual Rhythm & Ribs celebration and the Thunder Valley Rally, an event which draws motorcyclists from all over to Old Town and beyond.

This year, the rib event is going by a slight change of name, the Rhythm & Ribs Country Music Festival is set for Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 and 6.
Thunder Valley Rally is set for the weekend of Sept. 19 through 21.

“We’re extremely excited this year,” said Hezekiah Allen with the Cottonwood Parks and Recreation Department.

Allen said planning for this year’s event started pretty much immediately after last year’s event ended.

The popular festival features music and of course, food. It was started in 2006.

Allen said that the name was changed to include “country music” because that can help attract a built-in fan base for that type of music.

In fact, this year’s musical line up includes a number of country music artists, including Austin Webb, Sam Hunt, Madeline Deveroux, Stolen Boulevard, Jed Morrison, Logan Brill, Briana Payne and the Boys, Ashley Wineland, Benton Blount and Kristian Bush of Sugarland.

The weekend will also feature the Great American Cookout, hosted by the Kansas City Barbecue Society at the Verde Valley Fairgrounds.
