Jerome may be a town with only around 450 residents, but 11 of them are running for Jerome Town Council in the Tuesday, Aug. 26, primary election.
They all gathered at Spook Hall to introduce themselves and answer questions from residents in an Aug. 14 forum hosted by the League of Women Voters of the Greater Verde Valley.
The candidates for the five-member body include incumbents Mayor Nikki Check, Vice Mayor Lew Currier, Councilwoman Anne Bassett, Councilman Randall Hunt and Councilman Bill Finney.
Challengers include Christina Barber, Abe Stewart, Steve Pontious, Frank Vander Horst, Chad Hembrough and Douglas Freund.
No candidate runs for mayor directly, but the candidate who earns the most votes in the general election in November becomes the mayor.
