Weekend Wars family picks on their own size

Third-grader Racer Uhler, of Camp Verde Elementary School, is the newest Weekend Wars wrestler of the three in the Uhler family and already has first-place awards at Weekend Wars and the Border Wars in Window Rock tournaments to his credit.

The Sterrett Wrestling Complex in Camp Verde has seen a lot of action as it prepares to host the next-to-last Weekend War of the summer Saturday, Aug. 16.

The Uhler family — particularly brothers Hayden, Korben and Racer — has seen even more.

The 106-pound Division IV state champion and incoming CVHS sophomore has “paved the way” for younger brothers Korben, a seventh-grader and state junior high runner-up last year at 88 pounds, and third-grader Racer according to father Jeremy Uhler — himself a former CVHS wrestler.

“I kind of regret not wrestling all four years, but now I have the chance to live it through my sons,” he said. “I definitely hope they give time back to the sport. I just want their goals to be to just stick with it and do something with it — whether go to college or give time back to younger generations that are coming up.”
