Year-end tax collections mixed

Published:

Tax collections in June were mixed across the Verde Valley compared to the previous month as the 2013-14 fiscal year came to an end June 30.

Clarkdale was the only municipality that posted higher numbers in June compared with May, although the difference in other communities didn’t fluctuate all that much.

The data was released last week in a report from the Arizona Department of Revenue Office of Economic Research and Analysis.

The department measures transaction taxes, collected from spending activity across economic sectors, from utilities and hotel stays to retail sales and dining.

In Camp Verde, tax collection for in June was $224,020, a drop of a little more than $40,000 over the previous month.

Retail sales tax collection showed a slight drop to $84,520.

Construction tax collection was up by more than $1,000 at $14,844. Restaurants and bars showed increased activity with just under $46,000 reported, up from just under $39,000.

Hotel tax collection remained fairly static with just over $16,400 collected.

For the fiscal year, Camp Verde generated $2,594,832 across all sectors, including $1,040,491 in retail sales taxes.

Cottonwood reported $1,059,892 in transaction taxes collected for June, down from just over $1.21 million the previous month.
