Three ‘River View’ roads cause headaches for 911

Published:

There are three streets in and around Camp Verde named River View Drive, which has raised safety concerns over possible mistakes when 911 operators dispatch emergency services.

Only one of those roads is actually in the incorporated limits of Camp Verde, the other two are near Camp Verde but are actually in unincorporated areas of Yavapai County.

The Camp Verde Town Council this month voted 4-3 against renaming the road that is in town limits while the Yavapai County Board of Supervisors voted last week to change the name of one River View Drive to Beasley Flat Road.

Councilwoman Robin Whatley, who supported changing the name of the street, said it has caused problems in the past when it comes to emergency response.

“They have been dispatched to the wrong location on more than one occasion,” Whatley said.

Jenna Owens, with the Camp Verde Community Development Department, said that the town was contacted by Toni Ketchum, Yavapai County 911 coordinator, about the possible safety issues.
