The Camp Verde Town Council will meet in a work session this week to discuss a variety of issues, including ways the town could improve revenues.
The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at Town Hall, 473 S. Main St., Room 106.
The town currently depends on sales taxes to fund most of local government spending, a revenue source that fluctuates depending on the state of the economy.
The Town Council encourages residents to shop locally.
Mayor Charlie German unsuccessfully lobbied Alco earlier this year to keep the Camp Verde location open.
The town currently charges no tax on food, a practice that differs from neighboring communities.
That’s just one of the possibilities the town’s leaders may discuss this week, although support for any sort of food tax is mixed.
Because the meeting is a work session, no action will be taken.
The Town Council also plans to discuss what direction to take with Rio Verde Plaza, the downtown shopping center owned by the town.
Currently, the shopping center at the corner of Main and Fain streets is empty except for monthly book sales held there to help benefit the library.
